Buying on Credit!

I have a friend that lives in a rural area of Viriginia. His home is surrounded by a few small farms. Last month a farmer’s cow broke through the fence onto my friend’s property and birthed a calf. Retail chains can be sneaky. At the checkout the salesperson will ask you if you have the store credit card. If not, they will offer you a 20-25% discount if you open a credit card account. It happened to me recently at a Belk store. I applied for the card and got $40 off my purchase. Wow! But, 3 weeks later I got my new credit card. The interest rate on that card is 35%, and a $40 fee for late payment. Nobody, I mean nobody should carry that credit card!!!!

Also, a family member bought a new SUV. She paid $44,000 for the car and financed it for 7 years, that’s 84 months!!!!!! Just doing the simple math, it is quite possible that the car will be worth less than the loan balance after 4 years. And the total interest paid on her loan will be $12,000. Her buying decision was stupid.

A special note: I am veery tired of seeing the TV commercial for Liberty Insurance featuring that giant bird. Hahaha!
